BRAINGATE!!!!

Hi all. I am back with something technical today. My final year is going on in college and all of us are to present a seminar on any technology. One of my friends took a seminar on something called a Brain gate. I’ll tell you what it is.

It’s a chip that is implanted onto the brain of a person which senses the thought of the owner and acts accordingly... For example, if the chip is implanted on me. I’ll be able to change the TV channel just by thinking about it. The chip, in my head will act as our remote. To site another example, I can even log on to the net using It., go to any web page, just by thinking about it.

It might seem cool to most of the technology freaks out there. And I apologies to them, for this post is not meant for them. I am not going to insult the existing technologies because; even I like some of them and use them too.

Similar to Brain gate there are some chips called the RFID. Implantable RFID chips designed for animal tagging are now being used in humans. An early experiment with RFID implants was conducted by British professor, who implanted a chip in his arm in 1998. Night clubs in Barcelona, Spain and in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, use an implantable chip to identify their VIP customers, who in turn use it to pay for drinks.

Doesn’t that sound far fetched to you. Come on. It does.. to me. There are electronic implants for improving the heath of people (spinal chord treatment, heart etc). Those are chalo ok... it is doing some good to the man. But implanting chips for paying bills, changing TV channels is just tooooo much.

Certain organic transplants itself go wrong at times. Then how can a human body cope with chips. Implantation of the chip poses some health concerns. A patient could react adversely to the chip itself by infection or allergy, or it could be implanted improperly. It could dislodge itself and move to a different part of the body than where it was first implanted. The implant could also fail on its own at any time, and the information contained in it could be lost. More serious trauma could occur if the chip reacts to outside source, such as a strong electrical field or a magnetic resonance imager (MRI) machine. The strong magnets used in an MRI scanner could destroy the implant and cause serious burns, internally and externally.

Not just health problem. It causes an invasion of privacy. It contains large amount of information which can be easily hacked and tracked. I am not going into the details of how it can be done.It has some benefits though… Identifying people, for storing medical records etc.

But I think our body needs to be kept and maintained the way it is. We have to abide by the laws of nature. Why should we break those rules that were written during our creation? Disturbing the nature’s balance has always had drastic effects. Each time man has taken one step forward into implementing new technology; two steps were unknowingly triggered for the nature’s destruction. Implanting chips is one such step. Is it one step to destroy Human balance on earth? Time alone can say.

Once again, my apologies to those who feel the other way. This post is entirely about how I feel about these chips. I really don’t think implanting chips will do any good to us other than for secret services and security agencies. I plead to who ever reads this… Please avoid it. It’s not cool.

i agree with you. the use of chips is serious business. ppl may think that its fashionable..ya it is but in a way but is has it harms which outweigh the benefits in the long run . and also it breaks rules of the nature and also humans may tend to be lazy once they get chips implanted into them. and in the end all will end up as fat lazy bums :-)
